Course Overview
Ethics is a balance between passion and caution. This course covers a full spectrum of principles for maintaining an acupuncture/eastern medicine practice, whether you’re just starting out or are a seasoned practitioner. We’ll address ethical models in different medical modalities, the patient-practitioner relationship, disclosure, confidentiality, payments, setting up your practice, taking time away or moving your practice, record keeping, sexual attraction, relationships with and covering for other practitioners, advertising, professional surroundings, and your role in the global community, and more - all within a clear and easy through-line that will guide you to success via integrity.
Course Objectives
- Students will learn core principles to determine what is ethical as pertaining to the practice of Acupuncture and East Asian medicine.
- Students will understand the various base categories of maintaining a practice and how ethics are applied within each.
- Students will be able to create a framework for creating and building an ethical practice of high integrity.
Course Outline
0 hrs - 30 minIntro, definition, classical use of etymology, historical representations.
30 min - 1 hrsPatient-practitioner and practitioner-professional relationships, disclosure of procedures, payment and fees, treatment of patients with legal guardians.
1 hrs - 1.5 hrsConfidentiality, coverage while away, moving, record keeping, post institutional training, use of titles, certificates of restriction.
1.5 hrs - 2 hrsWorking with other practitioners, advertising, professional surroundings, practicing other modalities.
Teacher
Dr. Mary McCullough has been in practice since 2009 and has been practicing Classical Five Element Acupuncture (CFEA) since 2014. She's taught both TCM and CFEA, most recently as Senior Faculty at the Institute of Classical Five Element Acupuncture in California.
