Course Overview

Please Note: This is a Reading Course. This course covers a wide variety of information on safety issues affecting the prescription of Chinese herbal medicinals. The course discusses various side effects and adverse reactions that are possible with Chinese herbal medicinals, the three major types of toxicity (nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity and fetotoxicity), the aristolochic acid issue, contaminants in patent medicines, herb-drug interaction problems, and the best practices for you to use Chinese herbal medicine safely.   • Participants will understand potentials for toxicity in Chinese medicine
  • Participants will understand the three important types of toxicity
  • Participants will understand identify the risk factors predisposing a patient to hepatotoxicity
  • Participants will understand determine under what circumstances a formula may be toxic or create an undesirable interaction with either a Western pharmaceutical product or a Chinese medicinal
