Treatment and Prevention of Mild Cognitive Impairment, Dementia, and Alzheimers Disease: An Evidence-Based Asian Medicine Approach This comprehensive course explores the integration of Asian Medicine with current neuroscience research for the treatment and prevention of cognitive decline. Students will examine Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), dementia, and Alzheimers disease through both Western and Eastern medical perspectives, with emphasis on evidence-based interventions. The curriculum reviews contemporary research on cognitive disorders from a Western medical standpoint, alongside clinical studies investigating the efficacy of traditional Asian medical modalities. Through systematic analysis of peer-reviewed literature, students will explore the therapeutic applications of herbal formulas, acupuncture, and complementary approaches in cognitive health. Topics covered include: (1) Current research on MCI and dementia pathophysiology (2) Evidence-based herbal formulas for cognitive function (3) Acupuncture protocols and key point prescriptions (4) Laser therapy applications (5) Moxibustion (6) Movement therapies: Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and balance training (7) Nutritional interventions and dietary approaches (8) Handwriting exercises and cognitive rehabilitation (9) Music therapy and its neurological effects (10) Lifestyle modifications for dementia prevention (11) Pharmacological considerations and integrative approaches (12) Current screening tools and cognitive assessment methods
Course Objectives
- The student will learn the current research for the use of acupuncture for brain health
- The student will learn the current research for the use of Chinese herbal formulas for brain health
- The student will learn the current research for the use of other modalities for brain health, such as, moxa, Tai Chi and balance.
- Students will understand the current state of western dementia reasearch.
- Student will learn effective evidence based acupuncture points and combinations for dementia care.

Dr Cameron Bishop lived, worked and studied in Japan for four years. He specializes in Japanese Meridian therapy, Women's Health and Pain Management. He has been practicing over 25 years in South Florida. He has extensive teaching and clinical experience.
